Library Media

The Library Media Program plays a vital role in the development of the whole child. The Capital School District believes that providing educational experiences that develop the whole child is a strategic imperative. Grade level standards have been established that are aligned with state and national standards. The program is delivered through integrated elementary, middle and high school experiences designed to move from foundational skills to developing lifelong inquiry, critical thinking, and problem solving skills as students progress through our schools.  Students participate in library media learning in collaboration with classroom teachers often simultaneously meeting standards in library media and course content.  The six Standards Framework for Learners that have been prescribed by the American Association of Librarians are evident in each library experience.  These standards frame our library media experiences with opportunities to Inquire while building new knowledge, Include an understanding and respect for diversity, Collaborate with others to broaden perspectives, Curate by collecting, organizing and sharing resources, Explore through experiences and reflection, and Engage in legal, ethical use and sharing of information.
