Superintendent Update Oct 1st, 2021
Superintendent Update Oct 1st, 2021Greetings Senator Nation!

This is Dr. Vilicia Cade the Chief Executive Officer and Superintendent of Capital School District.  I hope you had a wonderful Friday!

It is an honor to bring you our weekly update for the week of  October 1st . Please know that our priority continues to be the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and parents with the community.

Please sign up for our school messenger app with a current phone number and e-mail.  Each week on Friday at 6pm you will receive our most updated information on COVID. At the time of my weekly update, it was reported we have 20 cases across 6 buildings.

I want to start by sharing some somber news.  I am requesting that all senators rally around our high school football team as we learned of the untimely passing of one of the coaching staff members.  The Capital School District Board Education and Staff extend our condolences to the family, the staff at Dover High School and the students at Dover High School.  We have enacted a plan to ensure that we have additional social emotional supports on-site at the high school for our students and our staff.   We will also provide supports to the family.

We continue to refine our transportation deliver service model.  I want to encourage Mr. Ashby and his staff for their tireless efforts.  I want to acknowledge all of our staff as they work collaboratively to ensure that students’ families are contacted regarding delays and that students are with caring adults while in our schools.

As you know, we had two remote days last week due to changes in traffic patterns.  Our remote learning days survey was sent out early this week - Monday.  If you have not had a chance to complete it, please do so at your earliest convenience.  We need your input in improving our efforts.

We need your help with supporting our schools and standing with our teachers. Capital School District sent out an alert this week to all staff, students, and families sharing that the Delaware State Police has contacted school districts throughout Delaware regarding the recent trend of very disturbing Tik-Tok challenges. The latest version is called “Slap a Teacher”. The safety of all members of the Senator Nation is quintessential to advancing our vision to spur the audacity of hope to uncover the magic of new beginnings. We stand united with our educators. Any acts that reflect the intentional harm of any members of our community, especially our educators, is unwelcomed and will result in consequences.  I encourage all families to monitor your students’ social media activity.

I hope to see each and everyone at Homecoming! Our parade will be on Friday, October 15th at 5:30pm.  I ask for your consideration as we continue on our journey to “spur the audacity of hope to uncover the magic of new beginnings”!

Thank you for your trusting us with your student or students.

Best regards,

Dr. Vilicia Cade
