When will the referendum vote be held?

The referendum will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. 

Where do I vote?

Voters may go to any of the following:

Who can vote?

Anyone who meets the following requirements may vote:

  • Live in Capital School District
  • At least 18 years old
  • U.S. citizen
  • Able to show proof of identification at the polling place (a driver’s license, State of Delaware I. D. card or a bill addressed to your current residence, such as a credit card or utility bill.)

Other important details:

  • You do not need to own your home
  • You do not need to be a registered voter
  • If you are unable to go to the polls, you may request an absentee ballot

How do I file an Absentee Ballot?

You may vote by absentee ballot if you cannot vote on Election Day for one of the following reasons:
(1) Because you are in the public service of the United States or of this State, or a citizen of the United States temporarily residing outside the territorial limits of the United States and the District of Columbia, or you are such peron's spouse or dependent when residing with or accompanying the person, or you are absent from this State because of illness or injury received while serving in the armed forces of the United States; or

(2) Because you are in the armed forces of the United States or the merchant marine of the United States, or attached to and serving with the armed forces of the United States in the American Red Cross or United Service Organizations; or

(3) Because of the nature of your business or occupation, including the business or occupation of providing care to your parent, spouse, or child who is living at home and requires constant care due to illness, disability, or injury; or

(4) Because you are sick or physically disabled; or

(5) Because you are absent from the district while on vacation; or

(6) Because you are unable to vote at a certain time or on a certain day due to the tenets or teachings of your religion; or

(7) Because you are otherwise authorized pursuant to the federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA)[42 U.S.C. § 1973ff et seq.] to vote by absentee ballot; or

(8) Because you are otherwise authorized by federal law to vote by absentee ballot.

To vote by absentee ballot:

 Important Dates:

  • Return your affidavit by noon on April 5, 2019 to the Department of Elections, Kent County Office if you want the Department of Elections, Kent County Office to mail your ballot to you.
  • Return your affidavit by noon on April 9, 2019 to the Department of Elections, Kent County Office if you want to vote in person.
  • Arrange to have your completed absentee ballot returned by 8:00 pm on April 9, 2019 to the Department of Elections, Kent County Office.
