Attention Capital School District Staff, Students, Parents, and Community,
As we gear up to welcome your child back to school for another exciting school year, we are dedicated to fostering an environment that prioritizes education from the moment students step into the building until they leave for the day. However, we've observed a concerning surge in cell phone and smart device usage during school hours, which is proving to be a significant obstacle to maintaining a focused and engaging learning environment.
To ensure the success of all students, we urgently need your assistance in reducing cell phone use during the school day. That's why we are launching the “Cell Phones Off and Learning On” campaign, emphasizing that cell phones must be turned off and out of sight during instructional times for all grade levels. While students up to 8th grade may use their cell phones before entering the school building or after school, they are not allowed to have cell phones during the school day. In case of emergencies, please utilize the school’s phones.
For further details, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) or Policy 700-20, Personal Technology Devices (cell phones).
Please be aware that when a student violates this policy, the following discipline steps will be applied:
* 1st Incident - Verbal Warning, iTracker Notes, and Parent Contact
* 2nd Incident - Administrative Detention, Documented Referral, and Parent Contact
*3rd Incident - In-School Suspension, Documented Referral, and Parent Contact
Repeated incidents will be processed according to the Student Success Guide. Students recording verbal or physical altercations may be subject to additional disciplinary consequences.
Thank you in advance for your partnership and continued support in providing a productive learning environment that limits distractions for all our students. Your support is critical in creating an environment conducive to focused and effective learning.
Sincerely,
Victoir T. Cahoon
