Update for 3/29/2020

Now broadcasting from Dr. Shelton via SchoolMessenger: (latest updates at http://bit.ly/csdstayhealthy)

Good evening, we hope that you have begun to settle into our ‘new normal’ and are safe at home with your family helping us to #flattenthecurve and protect the community.

We are working hard to make sure that our Senators are fed, have engaging learning activities to do while they are at home and feel safe and supported in this very unsettling time. Our food delivery program delivered over 1,100 meals on Friday.

Students in grades PreK-8 are currently working at home on the choice board activities that you received in the mail. If you did not receive yours, please call or email your school secretary so we can be sure we have the correct address on file. The second set of learning materials with more detailed grade level work will be mailed out to each home on Monday, please expect them later this week. Our PreK-8 students in every school will receive Learning Kits throughout the pandemic closure.

Beginning this week our teachers and staff will be in contact to check in on how our “Senators@Home” are doing and to guide them in completing the Learning Kit work students are receiving in the mail. Access to the curriculum aligned computer programs and applications at each grade level is now open through the “Clever Application Portal”. You can find the link on the district website landing page. Senator Learning Kits that are mailed to families are also organized by grade level on the Capital School District Website for your convenience.

Dover High School students who do not have computer access at home were invited by grade level last week to borrow a chrome book and asked to sign up with Comcast who is offering two months of free internet access.

Individualized learning kits were delivered to our students at KCCS last week and we are working now to enable our middle school students the ability to borrow chromebooks if they do not have them at home. We know that our students will need a variety of learning experiences to stay interested and a varying levels of support and accommodations to be successful.

Tomorrow, our full faculty will return to work, although in a new virtual way. You should expect a call from your child’s principal on Monday night with additional details as to how our teachers, para, service providers and support staff will be interacting with your students while we are at home.

Please remember to stay safe, stay home, if you MUST go out, socially distance by staying at least 6 feet from others and wash your hands.
