UPDATE FOR 3/23/202

Update from Dr. Shelton:

Latest Information on COVID-19 and Capital School District - http://bit.ly/csdstayhealthy

Good Evening Senator Nation. Tonight, I want to give you an update that includes new information from Governor Carney's office.

Yesterday Governor Carney issued modifications to his State of Emergency declaration, ordering Delawareans to stay at home whenever possible and closing all non-essential businesses in Delaware to help fight the spread of the Coronavirus. The orders go into effect at 8:00 AM on Tuesday March 24 and will remain in effect until May 15 or until the public health threat is eliminated.Today he also announced that schools will remain closed until May 15th (Read the letter here). At that time we hope we will resume classes and school will conclude for the year by June 30th.

Like you, we have many questions about what this means for the Capital School District schools. Please know that we plan to continue our meal service program, and our staff continues to work on planning to provide learning opportunities for students to do at home. We will continue to provide our families with updates as soon as new information is available. In the meantime we appreciate you doing your part to help #flattenthecurve by staying home, not being in social groups and washing your hands.

We have all had to make changes in our daily lifestyle and routine. I cannot thank enough the staff that have rolled up their sleeves and provided nearly 3000 meals to families throughout our community last week, for those that created content, copied and stuffed envelopes with our first two weeks of learning opportunities for our families to do at home and for those who made sure our buildings were clean, our families had the information they needed and our students felt safe and secure.

As we prepare to begin a new week filled with new challenges, I want to take a moment to reflect on the resilience and strength I witnessed in our community over these last several days. Families are adjusting in ways we never could have imagined. We will continue to make adjustments and begin to feel better about our new normal. Thank you for your patience as we work together and thank you for your commitment to our community and to our children.
