The Capital School District’s Department of Student Services works to meet the needs of every child, every day.
Our department and building-level staff work collaboratively with local and state agencies to meet the physical, social, and behavioral health needs of our students. Student and family support staff and services are available to assist you.

Meet our District Staff
Tania Alexander - Officer of Equity and School Improvement
Ms. Alexander has been in education for 23 years as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, and Equity Officer before joining Senator Nation.
She believes in educating the whole child. She also believes that it takes a village to grow and nurture our students. It takes support from all stakeholders, staff, teachers, students and the community in order to provide support for all of our diverse learners. She believes in being a lifelong learner and modeling that for our students. Her position with Capital as Officer of Equity and School Improvement allows her to work with all stakeholders and model how equity is embedded in everything that we do. Her goal is to be a catalyst that assists in the mindset that given the opportunity and needed supports, all of our learners can be successful.
Dr. Brittany Hazzard - Supervisor of Instruction, Culture and Wellness
Dr. Brittany Hazzard, LMSW is an accomplished educational leader with over 15 years of experience in both mental health and educational leadership. As a Licensed Master Social Worker with certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she previously served as the Supervisor of Equity and Support Services in the Milford School District. Dr. Hazzard is passionate about supporting the "whole child" and creating equitable systems that empower all students to reach their full potential. Her leadership approach blends compassion, emotional intelligence, and accountability to foster inclusive environments. Her contributions have earned numerous recognitions, including the 2023 Governor's Compassionate Champion Award in education. Dr. Hazzard holds a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University and is a graduate of the Howard University Superintendent's Academy.

Shameka Johnson - Truancy & Homeless Education Liaison
Mrs. Johnson holds certifications in education, social work and counseling. She provides services to students and their families that are experiencing homelessness or have barriers which interfere with regular school attendance.
(Grades PreK-5)
Rod Fesel - Truancy & Homeless Education Liaison
Mr. Fesel has a background as an educator and school counselor who works to ensure that students experiencing homelessness remain educationally stable and that barriers to regular school attendance are removed.
Janay Washington - Homeless Education Liaison (Pre-K-12)
Ms. Washington joined Student Services after three years with Special Services as a Speech Therapy Paraprofessional. Janay has built her career around helping people feel they are being seen, heard, and supported. She is dedicated to providing stability, guidance and compassionate support to students and families facing housing insecurity.
