Special Education Parent Advisory Council

Special Education Parent Advisory Council

The Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) provides an opportunity for parents to collaboratively engage with the Capital School District Special Services Department and serves as a platform for advocacy. A local SEPAC provides direct input to school district leaders about policies, programs, practices and services that have an impact on students with disabilities.  Capital's SEPAC is parent-led and provides direct support to parents. Meetings are designed to be conversational and open with an emphasis on sharing feedback, ideas, information, questions, and concerns. SEPAC strives to promote communication between families and the district to better support the education of children.

We encourage all families and caregivers of students with special education needs, IEPs  or 504 Plans to participate and attend meetings scheduled by SEPAC. Schools or specialized programs may have a Parent Advisory Council (PAC) or PTA. The Special Education Parent Advisory Council is in addition to any parent organizations that may be available to you within your student’s school.
