Over the past four years, Booker T. Washington (BTW a.k.a. “Best in The World”) has not only transformed the culture of the school, but has also dramatically increased the achievement levels of ALL Children. Staff members instill a growth mindset in the students at BTW. This mindset is reflective in the level of collaboration between staff, families, and community. This environment of shared ownership is the catalyst for high levels of expectation and achievement for all students and staff. All school level goals reflect this philosophy and are evidenced in all initiatives. BTW offers programming to meet the diverse needs of all learners in order to promote growth in all aspects of a child’s development. Additionally, BTW has focused efforts on high-quality integration of varied technologies to enhance and extend student learning (i.e., iPads, laptops, etc.) both during the school day, as well as in their "State Recognized" Extended Day Program.
Our curriculum has been developed to meet students' academic, social, and emotional needs. The faculty and staff have completed training in all content areas and are using current research-based instructional programs and techniques to teach the district curriculum which is aligned to the Common Core standards. Instruction includes cross-curricula writing, problem solving with discussion using our Go Math! series, and constructivist learning using Smithsonian and FOSS Science Kits. A reading and language arts block of at least ninety minutes is scheduled for every classroom each day. Supplementary materials such as Accelerated Reader and incentive programs are used to increase reading opportunities for all students. Enrichment is provided for gifted and talented students. Reading Specialists, Special Education teachers, and Title I paraprofessionals serve students who need additional help with their learning.
