CSD and COVID-19 Update (4/24/20)

Dear Senator Nation,
Today the Governor announced that students will not be returning to school on May 18th as originally hoped. Due to the continuing COVID health crisis, school buildings will remain closed through the end of this school year. Students will continue to engage in remote learning following their own district- and charter-designed plans, which include individual closing dates for the ’19-’20 school year.

The Delaware Department of Education will convene a team of stakeholders to collaboratively plan for the remainder of this school year, assess transition, and then continue to adjust and transform practices for the return to school for the ’20-’21 school year once public health officials determine it is safe to return.

While disappointing, this means we will continue to support our students through our Senator@Home initiative. We have a plan in place to complete the school year. All work for each phase of the plan is posted on our website as well as mailed to families. Phase 3 of our Senator@Home Learning is already on its way to you. This work counts and has important learning for your child to complete. During Phase 4, which begins May 11th, we move from review to new learning - student work will be graded and engagement tracked. Two more phases will follow. The regular school year will end on June 15. For now, focus on Phase 3. Senior activities are still being finalized to ensure their special moments can be captured the best way we can and more information will be forthcoming. If you have questions regarding the next phases of virtual learning, please contact your child’s principal.
Lastly, It is critical in order to stop the community spread of the COVID-19 virus that EVERYONE follows the practices outlined by the Governor. STAY HOME. If you MUST go out, do not interact with others, keep at least 6 feet apart, do not touch surfaces or your face and wash your hands regularly. Those that follow these protocols will remain healthy and save lives.

Thank you for your patience, your support of our senators@home and your diligence to #flattenthecurve.

Have a great weekend.
