IS THERE RELIEF FOR SENIORS? (YES!)
Delaware has a Delaware School Property Tax Relief Program for Seniors and you may be eligible for a significant tax credit of 50% (up to $400) annually against your regular school property taxes on your primary residence. We encourage all qualified seniors to apply for tax relief. To qualify you must be:
- 65 years or older.
- A resident of Delaware
- (Prior to January 1, 2013) Individuals who moved to Delaware and established a domicile prior to this date automatically qualify as a resident for this program.
- (After January 1, 2013) Individuals who moved to Delaware must be a resident for 3 consecutive years.
- Applicants must pay their property tax in full in order to be eligible for the following tax year.
- Have a valid driver's license or state ID to apply.
- Applications must be filed by April 30th.

Special Note for City of Dover Residents:
Property owners age 60 or above:
The City of Dover offers a tax reduction for qualifying seniors - $50,000 off the assessed value of your property.
In order to qualify:
-Property owner must have attained the age of 60 years by March 1, 2019
-As of March 1, 2019 they are the sole owners of the property and they reside on the property.
-Property can only be used for residential purposes.
-City taxes must be current - any outstanding taxes will result in a denial for the reduction.
-Yearly income did not exceed $19,148 for an individual or $26,858 for a couple.
